PLEYEL – SIX SONATES POUR HARPE
Six sonatas - at first glance the music immediately confirms that these are truly harp sonatas: For harp with accompanying violin.
The violin which usually has an equal or solo voice in other sonatas, fulfils an accompanying function in this work. Even with the first impression, the interpretation shows to be a challenging task. Delightful and charming melodies are the main characteristic often paired with an apparent simplicity, although the harp voice is highly virtuosic. Pleyel also published the work in a version for piano and violin. In comparsion to the harp voice, the piano part contains considerably fewer notes, which certainly facilitates the technical execution.
However for the listener, the more complex harp version promises a more sonorous and interesting listening experience. The charming and varied themes of these six sonatas is worth rediscovering 200 years after their creation.
